Balinese are obliged to carry out Catur Brata Penyepian. These are no fire (amati geni), no work/activities (amati karya), no amusement (amati lelanguan) and no traveling (amati lelungan) and for some event no talking or eating at all. The result is total silence throughout the island for 24 hours.

Non-Hindu residents and tourists are not exempt from the restrictions. They are free to do as they wish inside their hotels, no one is allowed onto the streets. The only airport in Bali remains closed for the entire day as well. The only exceptions granted are for emergency vehicles responding to life-threatening conditions and women about to give birth.
