Ogoh Ogoh festival & Hari Nyepi. Not many tourists are aware of this magical event and holy day "Hari Nyepi" ,which is the Balinese New year, represented as the day of silence. A day where introspection, purification and meditation is key. No use of electricity is allowed, no workactivities are allowed, the streets are empty and guarded to stay empty, the Island is silent, as if completely deserted. When the sun sets, the Island slowly absorbs the darkness and each and everyone will become one with that natural flow of time in silence. It is the only place on earth where life's daily activities stop for 1 entire day.

One day before Hari Nyepi, the Balinese youth spend weeks of preparation to build the most nightmare-ish demons. Paraded and competed, this festival has and is becoming an incredible spectacular festival to witness. All representing Hindu mythodology in its characters, mirroring the negative side of life. Which will then be (often) burned and the energy is symbolicly cleansed.

For anyone thinking of a holiday in Bali at the end of the raining season: March is quite the experience :)
