Happy Labour Day!
1 May is an international workers’ day, in many countries including Indonesia. It is a day when the rights of workers, to fair working conditions, enough rest, and a decent wage, and the struggle to achieve them are celebrated.
Gayatri as a small business that agrees with many socialist principles, particulary around wealth redistribution and free access to healthcare and education, has always tried to be as partial towards workers as possible.
Here are some policies we have in place for the welfare of our employees:
✅ A minimum wage that is 74% higher than the legal minimum wage
✅ Free healthcare, accident protection, and pension (all paid in full by Gayatri, going beyond the legal requirement)
✅32 paid days off a year
✅ A women’s empowerment division, which doubles as a women’s workers union, the meetings of which are paid for by Gayatri
✅ Long-term contracts for all the staff which include significant fines for the business in case of early termination giving the staff financial security and peace of mind
✅ No unpaid interns (so no one works for free)
✅ Zero tolerance policy towards harassment in the workplace
✅ Capping women’s working hours at 11 pm, so they do not have to be at work at unreasonable hours
✅ A one-hour lunch break
✅ Respecting the 8-hour work day, and always compensating the staff member for any overtime
We hope workers the world over are treated in a humane way - with respect, their efforts appreciated, and their time rewarded in a decent way.
Happy Labour Day to everyone!
