Learn to lead, practice and teach an Alignment-Based Vinyasa Flow class, integrated with traditional Yogic practice. Culminating in restorative postures, often combined with meditation, pranayama and chanting, our practice serves first to awaken the body and break-up stuck energy, and then to soften the mind and nurture our inner being.
Serge Bandura (E-RYT 500) the co-director at Shivakali Yoga, has been teaching the Yogic arts of India & Tibet since since 2001. His approach evolves out of a deep transmission from younger years living in Kula (yogic community), engaging in lengthy daily practice before the hours of dawn, and undergoing rigorous study with his teachers. In classes, Serge blends his knowledge of traditional Yogic practice & philosophy with 1000's of hours of training in Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, Rudra Yoga, Vinyasa, Kundalini Ta**ra, Ayurveda and Tibetan Buddhism. He holds a BA in Religious Studies with an emphasis on South-Asian traditions, a certificate in Yoga Philosophy, a diploma in the study of Yoga & Ayurveda, an E-RYT designation from the Yoga Alliance, he reads/writes Sanskrit, and is a practicing Ngakpa (Tibetan Yogi) with Pema Khandro Rincpoche.
Gloria Baraquio practices and shares Agni Hotra, Vedic fire ceremony, teaches kirtan, chanting + harmonium, and is an expert in Vinyasa Yoga with a background in Ashtanga, Iyengar, Yin Yoga, Resorative, Hatha, and Vinyasa Flow. She has led over 20 teacher trainings and retreats globally, and shares her love of Bhakti Yoga through body, breath and voice.

After doing stints as a journalist at Forbes and CNBC in New York, Tom Brennan took a week off to recover, reset, nourish and learn .Here is what he had to say...

"Rested, Relaxed and Ready to Get Back to Work... I did the 5day Transcendental Meditation (TM) retreat at Gaia Retreat Center, Ubud, Bali. I'd been practicing mindfulness meditation and wanted to try something new, as well as take a serious break because I work a very intense job. So the fact that Villa Gaia had TM, in addition to other amenities (pool, sauna, vegan food, massage, etc.), made it the right choice for me.

And I got exactly what I needed. I had fun learning a new kind of meditation and really got the chance to decompress. A typical day was: wake up, do yoga, eat a great vegan meal, study TM, take a break, eat another great vegan meal, get a massage, go for a swim, take a nap, read in the lounge as a cool breeze swept up from the rice paddies and across the property, eat a third great vegan meal, then maybe head into town to see traditional Balinese dance. And that's not counting the field trip to the holy water temple, the infrared sauna, whirlpool bath, sensory deprivation flotation tank, etc. By day four I was thoroughly relaxed and fully recharged.

The people I met were also great! Staff were kind and enormously helpful. I ended up spending a lot of time with the other guests too, which felt like a community formed in the short time I was there, and everyone had a lot of fun together.
