Uluwatu sits on a different kind of Bali.

The cliffs of the Bukit are formed from ancient marine limestone — layers of coral and carbonate sediment that built up underwater millions of years ago, then were pushed above sea level by tectonic movement.

What’s left is the landscape we know now: sheer limestone walls, exposed reef shelves and the coastline that shapes Uluwatu.

The morning of Purnama (the full moon), we take a short drive from the villas to Pura Luhur Uluwatu, one of Bali’s six sea temples, for prayers and offerings.

Our team makes this trip every month. For many of them the temple isn't a sight to see, it's part of where they grew up. You're welcome to come along and experience this side of Balinese life.

Never been to a Hindu temple? No problem. They'll show you what to do. Just let the front desk know the day before and we'll have a sarong and sash ready.

Mark Occhilupo is no stranger to perfect lefts. His section in Filthy Habits, filmed at G-Land in the early ’90s, blew minds. He even has a wave named after him, Occy’s Left.

As peak surf season starts to wind down, every so often we get a flat day out front. Usually, that’s when we grab our swim fins and head out onto the reef, free diving, exploring and spearfishing.

For those looking to venture further, Pura Laut, our 11-meter speedboat, is ready to take you across to Java or Lombok, or out for an afternoon exploring the coastline around Uluwatu.
