Jia CURATED 2026 is open. From 13 to 17 August, Pengembak Beach in Bali becomes a five-day gathering of craft, design and culture.

This year's theme, Nature Weave, explores the interwoven relationship between people and the living world, and asks how design can create with and for landscapes, ecosystems and other species.

Benih is a Jia CURATED 2026 project connecting artisans and designers through creative exchange across Indonesia, Japan, and Taiwan.

🌿 *An evolving culinary landscape on the south coast.

Smaller, independent kitchens are moving away from predictable menus, choosing instead to focus on raw craftsmanship and distinct regional pairings.

From hidden, two-story spaces serving modern Asian sharing plates under the tree canopy to small bars experimenting with local botanicals like Sichuan pepper and traditional elements, the focus is shifting toward simpler setups with an intentional identity.

Discovering these changing layers is just part of a slow walk down a different path.

The latest independent venue openings and tables across the coast are tracked here for those looking to see what is currently happening in the neighborhood:

🎨 What does Balinese art look like right now?
While we love the quiet, slow rhythm of our cliffs here on the Bukit, there's a different kind of creative energy taking over the island this month. The Bali Jani Arts Festival is kicking off its 8th year at the Art Centre, and it is entirely free to wander through.
In the Balinese language, "Jani" simply means "Now." While the island is famous for its ancient, sacred traditions, this festival is a pure look at its future. It is a space where over 2,000 young Balinese photographers, filmmakers, and dancers gather to show how their heritage is adapting to the modern digital world.
Instead of traditional gamelan and classical dance, you’ll find:
Mind-bending digital art installations and raw photography galleries.
Experimental acoustic sets and modern indie films.
Contemporary theater and poetry nights under the stars.
It feels honest, vibrant, and incredibly alive—a side of local culture that most travelers completely miss.
If you want to plan an evening out, you can check out the full lineup, performance spaces, and daily schedules on the

🐋 The Ghosts of Uluwatu.
If you sit on the cliff-tops of the Bukit long enough, staring down past the surf line-up into the deep blue reef water, you might catch a glimpse of something you thought was just a myth.
Most people believe the Dugong (our rare, gentle marine "sea cow") has entirely disappeared from Bali. But over the last few years, a secret has been circulating among sharp-eyed surfers and local cliff-top spotters.
Hidden inside modern, high-resolution surf footage, a few solitary dugongs have been caught on camera, quietly surfacing for air just meters away from the surfboard line-ups.
They are drawn to the hidden, underwater seagrass pockets that hug the limestone bases of Bukit beaches. While the world watches the waves, these ancient mammals are quietly living their lives in the shadows of the cliffs.
Seeing one is a reminder of the quiet, unseen magic still hiding right under our noses. Travel gently, look closely, and respect the deep. 🌊✨
