As Part of Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026
an initiative by Wonderful Indonesia

The Indonesian Gastronomy Week, a tribute to Indonesia’s gastronomic heritage and culture, uplifted into a contemporary dining experience.

Roso, in the collaboration with Ron Gastro Bar and Semaja, united three chefs with one purpose : highlighting traditional flavors and craftmanship in modern twist. Pulang and Timur, telling passed down story through the art of culinary masterpieces.

Along with WIG Artisan Market, another celebration of pride to honor Indonesia’s rich gastronomy roots, catered for every guest at Wiji Restaurant.

On Sunday, September 15, 1912, Grand Hotel De Djokja opened its doors, welcoming guests into an era of refined hospitality in the heart of Yogyakarta.

Established in 1911, the hotel was envisioned as a distinguished destination along the growing Malioboro corridor. From its spacious rooms and private verandas to its pioneering electric lighting, in-room service bells, and dedicated carriage and motor garages, every detail reflected a remarkable standard of comfort for its time.

The opening was reported in September 1912 by De Express. De Expres was a Dutch-language newspaper first published on March 1, 1912, in Bandung. It was founded by Ernest Douwes Dekker, with Ki Hadjar Dewantara and Tjipto Mangoenkoesoemo, the three later known as the “Tiga Serangkai” (Three Leaders).

More than a century later, the spirit of that grandeur endures, reimagined for a new chapter while remaining rooted in its heritage.

Every tradition starts with a first. This Independence Day, we began ours.

For the first time, the Grand Hotel De Djokja family came together to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day.

The day began with a meaningful flag ceremony, followed by the traditional tumpeng cutting by our General Manager, and joyful competitions that filled the celebration with laughter and camaraderie.

Together, we honored the values that define our nation: unity, diversity, and the heritage that connects us across generations.
