The Barn has had many lives over the years which is fitting for a building integral to a property that was a working farm in the past. The Barn has been a mill making use of its position next to the Brackey river, a Byre for the cows that supplied milk, chickens their eggs & donkeys their strength. It’s been a store house for the all important potato & farm machinery as well as a winter refuge for birds in its rafters and swallows in its eaves in summer. Now with sympathetic respect for local architecture and keeping as much of the barns original layout its been turned into a delightful retreat for those travelling. Set over two floors with two ensuite bedrooms (one with claw foot bath) on the ground floor with original slate flagstones to open plan living & kitchen on the 1st floor with exposed beams, fireplace and double door opening to the rural views around. Situated on the N56 opposite the turn off to the famous beautiful Maghera Beach and it’s caves and the pretty Assaranca Waterfall its bordered by the Brackey River which can be heard running from the garden in front of the Barn. Outdoor furniture is supplied for you to enjoy sitting out side the Barns front door in a small sun trap with a country garden set out in front of you with fruit trees that bring the birds and bees. You may hear the donkey from the field over the road in the morning as he calls out for his breakfast, he’s always appreciative of the odd apple or carrot but not much more as the summer grass is abundant. We hope you choose to spend your time exploring Donegal with us whether its on foot, bike, or car (parking is available right next to the Barn) and if you would like a little local knowledge on where to go or what to see we’d be happy to point you in the right direction.
