Hodson Bay Group is one of the few remaining Irish family owned hotel groups and currently comprises of three four star hotels. The group was established in 1992 with the opening of the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone and expanded with the constructions of sister properties, Galway Bay Hotel on the outskirts of Galway City and Sheraton Athlone Hotel in Athlone. Owned and run by the O’Sullivan family and directors, the hotels are renowned for warm hospitality and unbeatable locations.
The O’Sullivan family acquired the property in 1992 when it was developed and reopened as a 46 bedroom hotel. Hodson Bay Hotel has gone from strength to strength throughout the years with numerous extensions being added to become the 4* hotel as we know it today. The most recent of these was the addition of retreat at Hodson Bay- an adult only area, The Spa at Hodson Bay and a new state of the art Leisure Centre in 2005. There are currently two areas within the hotel, Hodson Bay Classic which is the original part of the hotel with 123 bedrooms and retreat at Hodson Bay, an adult only area with 53 bedrooms. The hotel is well-known as a wedding venue, corporate venue and leisure destination with a capacity of 1400 delegates for conference and meetings.
