This weekend, Twin Trees Hotel & Brusna Falls Leisure is proud to host Hustle for That Muscle - a very special fundraising weekend for four-year-old Paul Stark.

Paul is living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Although there is currently no cure, treatments and specialist support can help manage the condition. Thomas Daly and staff from Dublin City Council are leading an incredible fundraising effort, with more than 70 people taking on Croagh Patrick and six cyclists making the journey from Glasgow to Ballina.

SATURDAY

From 12pm - Photos with the Sam Maguire Cup and UEFA Champions League Cup. Donations welcome.

From 3pm - Penalty shoot-out in the hotel garden. Three shots for EUR5, with a 50-inch Smart TV for the winner.

From 8pm - The Rambling String Band live in Frog's Bar, followed by the raffle draw, with the winners chosen by Paul himself.

SUNDAY

12 noon - Rangers v Celtic live in the hotel.

There’s still plenty of time to get out and see a few of the places that make Mayo so special. Here are five to add to your list…

Westport Wolfhound Walks — Take a 90-minute walk along Bertra Beach with two very impressive Irish Wolfhounds, Spéir and Máirtín. Expect Atlantic views, Croagh Patrick in the distance and plenty of stories about Irish mythology along the way.

National Museum of Ireland – Country Life — Step back in time at Turlough Park and explore the story of everyday Irish life from 1850–1950. The museum is surrounded by 30 acres of parkland, making it worth allowing time for a wander outside too.

Blacksod Lighthouse — Head west to the edge of the Mullet Peninsula for big Atlantic views and one of Mayo’s most striking coastal landmarks. It’s the kind of place where you’ll want to put the phone down and just take it all in.

Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail — A beautiful 2km boardwalk through Atlantic bogland, with sweeping views towards Ballycroy National Park, Claggan Mountain and Achill Island. A great one for a slower afternoon outdoors.

Carne Golf Links — For golfers, Carne is one to experience. Set on the wild Atlantic coast near Belmullet, it’s all dramatic dunes, coastal scenery and a links course that feels very much part of the landscape.

🎥 The Legend of Dun Bríste 🎥

Standing proudly off the coast at Downpatrick Head, Dun Bríste
—meaning "The Broken Fort"—is one of Mayo's most iconic natural landmarks.

But local legend tells a story far more dramatic than the Atlantic waves.

It is said that a chieftain once lived on the headland with his family and livestock. One stormy night, after refusing shelter to a travelling stranger, the sea grew wild and furious. By morning, the land had split in two, separating the fort from the mainland forever.

Today, Dun Bríste rises almost 50 metres from the ocean, a breathtaking reminder of both the power of nature and the rich folklore woven throughout Mayo.

Whether you believe the legend or the science, one thing is certain—few places capture the spirit of the Wild Atlantic Way quite like Dun Bríste.
