Behind the scenes shenanigans ! From Houdini donkeys relocation so fences can be repaired, sheep taking the long mile, last minute arrivals for finishing a job, laundry, 10litre paint spills 😳, small ! divots that need scratching out and filing, and drying time v curing time v weather! Why is it not like all the other Instagram posts when you just click your fingers ….

Ok so it’s technically the second cut of the year, however I do miss the etc - it was a buzzing with life…….Still you can walk to the door now , I guess that is the up side.

Freshly painted and looking stellar in the 2026 summer outfit.

A little recap before we dive headlong into summer, a lot has happened in the last few months. We left the lawn long for as long as we could, was pretty special to listen to the life literally buzzing around our heads. The infamous hedge is coming back to life. The exterior has had a bit of a clean up too.

Kofi and Belle have taken up residence in the field - for a week or so while we curb their Houdini activities 🙄

There is no boat this year, it was just not possible to replace or fix in time, however is pretty good from the shore. There are plenty of places to fish from the shore for sea fishing and sea fishing boats to hire are not too far away.

We seem to be having a cushion off! Every week when guests leave, the cushions are all in different positions. Loving the variety!

Very much looking forward to seeing you all for this new era of .

Tonight’s sunset with added vertical rainbow !

Went for a little bimble over the bog while there was a clearing in the cloud. Real joy to hear the but unfortunately I managed to hit the slow mo button on the Geese so they fly like they are suspended in the sky and sound like low flying s - the Roundstone bog is slowly coming out of a very long wet season, s halfway from here to is not for the faint hearted. - take a stick! And always let someone know where you are headed. Everything was sparkling today! Great mares tails in the sky - all change , Mare’s tails are high-altitude cirrus uncinus clouds that appear as thin, wispy, white streamers with curled ends, resembling horse tails. They form at very low temperatures (-40°C to -50°C) and typically signal strong high-altitude winds, often acting as an early warning sign for approaching rain or a warm front - I’m seeking just a dryer front !

sleeps 8 self catering.

We are blessed here, no matter what is going on in the world, here in the West coast, the edge of the Atlantic - we have the perfect retreat. Big skies, views to get utterly lost in and mighty sunsets. An opportunity to gather ourselves.

Today’s word of the day is “Lionnir” The suns sparkle on the Atlantic waves - and an inner glow of joy or brilliance. What a word!

This morning started full of promise with the kind of sea fog that lifts and the day truly sparkle, and it did. So worth waiting for -

Today’s weather report….

Life has been a little chaotic for us recently. My father passed away on New Year’s Day, which has knocked us all for six. It was very peaceful but frighteningly quick. We did manage to sneak him in half a dozen oysters which slipped down really well - The Dr did say soft food! However with the sunshine and bird song today the future feels a little brighter. We are taking one day at a time. For those of you that knew him will know what an utter heartbreak it has been for us all.

So looking forward to seeing you all this year. We have new books to enjoy, new maps , and THE night storage heater by the double bedroom has been replaced! If you know you know…

The epic hedge has had a pretty severe haircut, the storm last year left it with a lot of damage so we are trying to see what we can salvage. Please bear with us! As always a work in progress.

Happy St Brigid Eve from Emlaghmore Cottage. It’s been a stunner - that roar you can hear in the back ground is actually the sea! the Wild Atlantic way being well WILD!
