Enchanting old building and delightful overnight accommodation.
Tucked away in a charming rural setting steeped in local history I was enchanted by my overnight stay at the keepers arms , in peaceful Bawnboy, Co Cavan.
It felt like a character in a Dickens novel knocking at the door of the Inn on a delightfully hot midsummers afternoon to be greeted by the pleasant young Lady who gave me my keys and showed me to my chamber. The room was pleasantly spacious with a double bed, bathroom en suite, tv, WIFI, shower, a mountain of fresh towels and a view onto the adjoining courtyard (no doubt where the coaches and weary patrons of yesteryear arrived in horse drawn carriages for rest and sustenance !)
Rising at a not unreasonable 9am after a nights revelry at a nearby hotel wedding reception I was treated like royalty in the dining room ! My Granola was crunchy and filled with fresh raisins and an assortment of oatfakes and nuts . My orange juice chilled and refreshing. I then enjoyed a delicious fry up of crispy bacon, plentiful pork sausage, fried eggs and pudding , well browned toast, washed down with a generous pot of tea. I was also delighted to be given an account of local tracks and trails, ancient monuments and areas of natural beauty by the kindly Lady preparing my breakfast .
I set off on my journey well rested and thoroughly satisfied with my visit to this hidden Gem ! Total cost an incredibly reasonable xx euro!
I can recommend the keepers arms unreservedly. - Mark Lord
