Try walking around some of the lesser known lakes and woodlands e.g. Clontykilla woods and cycling a myriad of country lanes. See if you can catch some fish on the nearby Boyle river or Lough Gara. Spend your evenings snuggled in the cabin with some local literature or head to Boyle for something to eat and a few pints. For those wanting very lively nightlife Carrick on Shannon is 12 km away
Enjoy feeding the hens year round and the pigs in season. Feel free to wander the farm, the only area out of bounds are those with cattle. Great news, the Barracks is very evocative and the dedication of the community to get it open to the public is a great tribute to John Mc Gahern.

A cycle or drive from the cabin to the Barracks via the park and perhaps onto Carrick or Drumshanbo has the makings of a great day

Class job Brendan. That would be the makings of a great weekend, a stay in the pod and a day's fishing

The Dugouts ⛏️

Used by the Irish Volunteers to hide weapons and shelter men temporarily on the run from the RIC and the British Army. They were usually well hidden, dug into a hill and lined with stone. This one is located near the entrance to Forest Park, Boyle. Sourced from Barry Feelys book 'They Dared To Challenge in the Garrison Town of Boyle'
