👻 Well, it looks like we've a new member of staff at Lough Lannagh Village… Meet Casper! 😂

We're not entirely sure where Casper came from, but Casper has taken quite a liking to the place!

Apparently, Casper has heard we've been keeping Mayo's Best Kept Secret for nearly 30 years and decided it was time to give us a hand spreading the word.

We're still trying to work out if Casper is here to haunt the Village or book himself into one of our cottages. 🎃

Either way, Casper has been settling in nicely… although I'm not sure Paul and Gerardine are too impressed with our latest recruit! 😂

So, what do you think? Should we keep Casper on after Halloween, or send him packing? 👻👇

And if you spot Casper wandering around Lough Lannagh, don't worry… Casper is friendly. We think! 😂

It was a real pleasure to welcome Ambassador Maaike van Koldam, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Ireland, to Lough Lannagh Holiday Village during her visit to Castlebar 🇮🇪🇳🇱

The Ambassador was in Castlebar meeting members of the Castlebar International 4 Days Walks committee ahead of two very special anniversaries next year — 60 years of the Castlebar International 4 Days’ Walks and 40 years of the International Marching League (IML).

Castlebar has a brilliant connection with the Netherlands and with walking. The idea for our own International Four Days’ Walks came from a group of Castlebar business people who travelled to the famous Nijmegen Four Days Marches and brought the idea home, leading to Castlebar’s first event in 1967.

Nearly 60 years later, that connection is still going strong.

Lovely to have the opportunity to welcome Ambassador van Koldam to Lough Lannagh — and hopefully next time we’ll get to welcome her back for a little longer and a stay in one of our cottages! 😊

🇮🇪🇩🇪 Lovely to see our friends from Höchstadt featured in the Connaught Telegraph!

It was a pleasure to welcome the new Mayor, Alexander Schulz, and the German delegation to Lough Lannagh Village last week.

A special mention to Anthony Leneghan The Family Butcher, who prepared traditional Franconian bratwurst using a recipe shared with him by a butcher from Höchstadt. A lovely example of how friendships between two towns can grow into something special!

Thanks to Castlebar Municipal District for hosting the evening and to everyone who made it such a lovely occasion.

Here's to many more years of friendship! 🇮🇪❤️🇩🇪

Castlebar deserves a second look. 👀

We hear it all the time — people planning a break in Mayo immediately think of the places they've heard about most.

But what if you stayed right in the middle of it all?

Somewhere you can spend the morning beside the lake, wander into town, head off exploring Mayo for the day and still have your own cottage to come home to that evening. 🏡

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to show you a lot more of Castlebar, Lough Lannagh and the places I'd genuinely recommend to someone coming to Mayo — where I'd go, what I'd do, and some of the places I think deserve far more attention.

But I'm starting with the locals…

Someone tells you they're coming to Castlebar for the first time — what's the ONE place, thing or experience you tell them not to miss? 👇

I'm going to steal some of the best answers for future videos. 😄

🏡 How many times have you passed Lough Lannagh without knowing what’s actually here?

Tucked away beside the lake are 11 self-catering holiday cottages for families, friends and groups looking for a few days away in Mayo.

Three and four-bedroom cottages. Ensuite bedrooms. Your own kitchen and living room. A proper working open fire. 🔥

Then step outside, and you’ve got Lough Lannagh Lake and the Castlebar Greenway on your doorstep, with Castlebar town centre within walking distance.

Maybe we’ve been keeping this secret a little too well…

🏨 Hotel room or your own cottage? 🏡

If you are coming to Mayo for a few days with family or friends, which would you choose?

🛏 Three or Four bedrooms.
🚽 Every bedroom ensuite.
🔪 Full kitchen.
🛋 Your own living room.
And a proper working open fire. 🔥

All beside Lough Lannagh Lake in Castlebar.

We know which one we’d choose… but we might be slightly biased. 😄
