We are delighted to announce our event for 2023!

Cavan County Museum will be hosting a world premiere performance of Cavan playwright Tara Maria Lovett's "The Half Coat", an original piece of writing inspired by an item in the first ever issue of the Anglo Celt newspaper.

"The Half Coat" is a dual-timeframe family history, set part in 19th century Ireland and part in modern times

This project is funded by Creative Ireland and Cavan County Council through Creative Cavan. Suitable for audiences aged 14+

This hilarious comedy is set in modern times with up-to-date themes running through it. We have two miserable farmers Paidi and Cass. On the surface it seems they are best friends but time will tell. Paidi has been told he will die in six months so he decides to leave the land to Cass. Paidi's no good brother Rooster will cause problems as will a Lady of the night from Poland Kasia. The local solicitor, Miss Murphy will sort everything out hopefully, with the help of the two nosey neighbours Mairead and Molly.

Celebrate the drama and literature of the County as part of Calling .

On Friday 28th July, 6:30pm, enjoy the launch of DIASPORA STORIES at Johnston Central Library, Farnham St, Cavan. This specially commissioned Diaspora publication, featuring men and women who left Cavan in search of a new life, was researched and compiled by Jonathan Smyth, at Cavan Library Service. Free event.

‘In the Midst of Plenty’ is a new work of historical drama set in 1847 at the height of Ireland’s Great Famine, featuring an original score of contemporary Irish folk music. Townhall Cavan on Friday, 28th July, 8pm.
