A major step taken this week in Cill Bhreac House's journey towards carbon neutrality.

A 16.965kWp Commercial Solar PV system installed - 39 solar panels mounted across our eastern (8), southern (22) and western (9) facing roofs, ensuring that we generate a yield from dawn until dusk. It is a substantial investment, but one that will significantly reduce our carbon footprint, slash our energy costs and secure our energy independence into the future.

This latest investment will compliment our existing Air2Water Heat Pump and paves the way for further investments in other renewable technologies in the near future.

While a sustainable & regenerative ethos was always at the core of how we operate at Cill Bhreac House, we got a great boost in our endeavours when we were chosen to participate in the Circular Economy for Regenerative Tourism (CE4RT) Training & Coaching programme that ran from January 2023 through January 2025. This two year programme led by Munster Technological University, gave 80 tourism SMEs across different sectors from Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Poland and The Netherlands a unique opportunity to go on a shared journey towards embedding circular and regenerative tourism practices into the core of our businesses.

We are privileged to live in a region so incredibly scenic, culturally rich and environmentally diverse. That said, it is paramount that we ensure its preservation and ongoing regeneration for generations to come. That is why it is so exciting to be involved in initiatives such as this which is positioning our beloved Di**le Peninsula as a leader in Regenerative and Sustainable Tourism, in not only Ireland, but on the global stage.

A big thank you to Munster Technological University and Di**le Peninsula Tourism for the wonderful opportunity. Míle buíochas also to our coach, Gráinne Kelliher, from Green Broker Consulting, for guiding and proactively challenging us throughout the programme.

Lots leaned, lots achieved, and with our carbon footprint calculated and our sustainability strategy in place, we have a very clear plan and pipeline of further enhancements that will guide us as we continue to evolve.

We are all in this together. ‘Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine’.

Getting a head start on Kerry County Clean Up Day while the sun is shining.

While it is never nice to be coming across any rubbish along our roadways, it was great to see a noticeable improvement on prior years. The deposit return scheme for aluminium cans and plastic bottles making a very noticeable difference. Disposal Coffee Cups next for the hit list thanks to the Cupa Chorca Dhuibhne project.

We were lucky enough to attend the NorReg, Regenerative Tourism, Conference in Siglufjörður, Iceland this week.

It was an amazing opportunity to network and meet with other Small and Medium sized businesses to share ideas about how to make our businesses more sustainable and regenerative, something we care passionately about at Cill Bhreac House.

A truly breathtaking country, lots of great people and plenty of new ideas to work on for the 2025 season.
