D. 1727 (O. Lodge Two can make the proud boast that it is the oldest surviving regular lodge in the Irish Constitution, having been warranted on 22nd May 1727 (O. Although the original warrant was issued to the Brethren of Lodge Two on the 22nd May 1727 (O. S.), it is generally accepted that the lodge pre-dates its warrant, which is supported by the description of the applicants in its petition’s
preamble for a warrant as the “Master” and “Wardens” - clearly implying that they held those offices in an already existing lodge. It was probably one of the “Six Lodges of Gentlemen Freemasons” – a time immemorial lodge - which helped to form the Grand Lodge of Ireland on St John's Day, 24th June 1725 (O. Later in the Grand Lodge Register, it shows that the original warrant of 22nd May 1727 (O. appears to have been exchanged for a more carefully worded document, dated 24th October 1732 (O. under which the lodge still works. A small and widely unknown fact about Lodge Two, is that in 1825, the ‘Mark Master Mason Degree’ in its present form, was first introduced into Ireland and the British Isles by the R. W. Bro.
