What’s on in Dublin: Ballsbridge Edition 🌳

You’ve probably got Fringe Fest and Culture Night on your schedule already, so we’re highlighting some September events here in our own neighbourhood. Just like the rest of town, Ballsbridge has a lot of exciting events on this month.

If you live around Dublin 4, are staying at Schoolhouse Hotel, or just want to get off the beaten track of city centre, we’ve got your list of upcoming events in the area >>

Baggotonia Festival is an annual celebration of the community, culture, and arts of the area around Baggot Street, known as Baggotonia.

Local residents and businesses host a variety of events during 17th-20th September, from arts and literary features to a vintage car show to a canal boat party.

Baggotonia Festival’s Plein Air Painting competition takes place along the canal banks on 20th September, or anywhere else in the neighbourhood where contestants are inspired to paint.

We’re especially excited for this one because we’re hosting the awards ceremony afterward right here at Schoolhouse! There’s still spots left to paint - sign up via Eventbrite.

Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has several events on this month, including the award-winning Matilda: the Musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as Sigur Rós with the Ulster Orchestra and Marty in the Evening with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Before your night at the theatre, come try our new pre-theatre menu at Schoolhouse with two courses for €34.95. We’re just a few minutes from Bord Gáis, so it’s a perfect spot for a dinner that gets you to the show before the curtain rises.

Alright, so the UEFA match against Austria at the AVIVA Stadium isn’t quite in September, but 1st October is close enough!

And for your football fix in the meantime, Ireland’s upcoming UEFA away matches on 24th and 27th September will be on our big screen in the Schoolhouse Gastrobar.

This , step back in time with us as we share some of our historic schoolhouse building’s unique history.

Established in 1859 as St. Stephen’s Parochial School, the building hosted students for over a hundred years, home to 307 pupils in its prime in 1892.

During the Easter Rising in 1916, the location saw the Battle of Mount Street Bridge, with the school’s desks serving as barricades. Look up at the ceiling next time you’re in our Gastrobar, and you can still see the bullet holes.

Our building’s rich history is just part of its charm - come see for yourself this Heritage Week!
