Bowie had a close relationship with Dublin, and came to the city rehearsing his new band for the Earthling tour in 1997. Bowie also played a secret gig at the Factory, Ringsend in May 1997 to 300 people which included a first sighting of the brilliant bassist Gail Ann Dorsey, who would be a fixture in Bowie’s band for the next 20 years⁠
