The response to my recent appearance on The Greg Hughes Podcast has been truly overwhelming.

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who took the time to listen, share, comment, or reach out privately. The kindness, encouragement and support from guests, colleagues, friends and complete strangers has meant more than I can put into words.

Sharing my story wasn’t an easy decision, but I felt it was important to show the humanity behind the business. Behind every hotel, every award and every success story are real people, real challenges, difficult moments and an incredible amount of resilience.

The Shandon Hotel & Spa is about far more than one person. It is built on the dedication of an exceptional team, many of whom have been part of our journey for years. Together we have created opportunities, supported families, and built something we can all be proud of in our community.

If there was one message I hoped people would take from the conversation, it is that success is rarely a straight line. It is often shaped by setbacks, loss, determination, courage and the people who stand beside you along the way.

Over the past ten years, many people have come to know Carolynne our GM/Director through Shandon Hotel & Spa, through business, hospitality, and the brand we’ve worked so hard to build.

But behind every business is a person, and behind every success is a team.

She decided to sit down with Greg Hughes and share her story because she thinks it’s important that people see the humanity behind the brand. The challenges, setbacks, losses, lessons, and resilience that shaped both her and the business over the last decade.

What you’ll hear is her story, but it is also the story of the incredible people who have walked this journey with her. Many of her senior team members have been by her side for years, helping to build something we’re all immensely proud of. Together, we’ve grown a business that today provides secure employment for more than 150 people in a rural community, creating opportunities for local families and contributing to the area we call home.

We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together. Not just the hotel itself, but the culture, the careers, the friendships, and the sense of purpose that have been built along the way.

Carolynne said, if sharing her journey helps someone facing their own challenges, inspires another entrepreneur, or simply reminds people that there are real people behind every business, then it was worth telling.
