They're back!

Every spring the same swallows return to the same nest in our shed: same spot, like clockwork. We're not sure how many years they've been doing it but we know one thing, they never miss a season.

Sometimes they find their way into the house and need a hand getting back out, always catch and release

Honestly at this point they might be our most loyal returning guests 😄

We don't usually turn people away from our door but on this occasion we had to. Ours is a small campsite and much as we wanted we just couldn't fit this rig in.

Anyway we sent him down to so he should be sorted.

If you're after a bit of peace and quiet, the Buffalo Spirit Lodge might be your spot.

Tucked away from the main green, it's the most private of our five tipis - set up with a king size bed and couch for couples, or with two singles for a family. Your own slice of the campsite 🏕️

Some places just look like they belong on a screen and Schull is one of them. Colourful streets, a beautiful harbour and that unhurried feeling you come to the southwest for.

This week it gets even better. The Fastnet Film Festival runs from the 20th to the 24th of May, bringing five days of film, talks and events to the village. A great excuse to base yourself at Dunbeacon, surrounded by nature and with it all on your doorstep 🎬

There's a wild bee colony living in the roof of our 200 year old house and we can trace them back to at least 2012.

They have swarmed every two years since we arrived in 2019. 2021, 2023, 2025. Each swarm is a sign of a healthy, thriving colony and a healthy environment around them.

We've been watching over them ever since - planting wild meadow flowers and making sure to use no chemicals. Some things were here long before us and will be here long after 🐝
