We are really looking forward to the Caherconnell Furnace Festival next weekend at Caherconnell Stone Fort on 29th/30th August. See the ancient skill of iron smelting which had been lost from Ireland for hundreds of years, but is now being given a new life by the lads at Irish Bloomery Iron.
Irish iron ore will be transformed into iron metal using fire, air and charcoal, in hand-built clay furnaces, replicating what the inhabitants of Caherconnell Stone Fort were during Medieval times.
The Caherconnell Furnace Festival is supported by Clare County Council.
