The great stone fort of Cahercommaun is dramatically situated, perched at the edge of a steep ravine in the Burren of County Clare.
Situated on some of the best land in the Burren, it was likely to have been an important centre for a regional king.
Archaeological evidence indicates that Cahercommaun was also a significant agricultural, craft, and industrial centre, with levels of production indicating trade rather than internal consumption. With activity evident from the 5th to the 10th century AD.
