Meet Rúadhán Burke, known as Rue by his colleagues, one of our much-loved doormen at Glenlo Abbey Hotel & Estate.
A member of the team since October 2019, Rue is often the first welcome guests receive when they arrive. For him, it’s about making people feel at ease straight away and setting the tone for their stay.
No two days are the same at the front door, but what he’s most proud of is seeing guests leave with a smile on their faces.
One moment that has stayed with him came during a storm, when a gust of wind blew his top hat off while he was holding a harp. Rue went after his hat in front of arriving guests, a moment that’s still remembered by some visitors today.
He believes small details matter, especially taking the time to ask each and every guests where they’re from to form an instant connection.
If he had to describe Glenlo Abbey in three words: teamwork, homely, pride.
Rue hopes every guest feels at home, safe, and leaves with great memories of their stay. And if there’s one non-negotiable to start his day, it’s coffee.
