“A tasty new Co. Kerry visitor attraction is bringing shellfish, aquaculture heritage, marine biodiversity and fourth-generation storytelling to the Wild Atlantic Way.

Réalt na Mara Shellfish, an award-winning aquaculture business run by fourth-generation fishers based in Cromane, has opened a Shellfish Tour & Tasting Experience which includes a fully equipped visitor centre and multimedia hub.

The development of the Shellfish Tour and Tasting experience was selected for funding by the Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) Southwest, under the Coastal Communities Development Scheme, receiving a grant of €10,000 for this project.

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine, Timmy Dooley TD, said:

“FLAG funding is designed to strengthen coastal communities, and Réalt na Mara Shellfish is a perfect example of that vision in action. This investment supports the local tourism and aquaculture industries and showcases the best of what can be experienced along the spectacular southwest coastline.”

Hi everyone the park will be closing for the season next Monday 27th of October.
Please get in touch with James Pato O Shea (087) 297 7730 for essential drain down of mobiles for frost.

As every year, here are some tips to properly prepare and protect your mobile home during the winter.

🧽 Cleaning

First of all, remember to clean and degrease everything, especially the tops of the cupboards. After the winter, grease is much more difficult to remove (WD-40 works very well).
Tip: place newspaper on top of the cupboards to make spring cleaning easier.

💧 Water and Electricity

Please note that the water and electricity are turned off during the winter.
Therefore, nothing should be left in the refrigerators. Remember to clean them, dry them, and leave the doors open to prevent mold.
Pull the refrigerator forward to empty the collection tray located at the rear, on the motor.

🔥 Gas Stove

Remove the burner grates and black caps, and wrap them in paper towels to prevent rust.

🌫️ Humidity and Pests

Place cat litter in each room to absorb moisture (more durable than commercial absorbers).
Also place some mouse repellent in the mobile home.
Peppermint essential oils are effective at repelling ants and spiders.

🪣 Gas Cylinders

Never store cylinders directly on the floor.
Place a piece of cardboard underneath (avoid newspaper or magazines: the inks can stain the linoleum).
The weight of the cylinders could also leave marks on the floor.

🛏️ Bedding

Place mattresses on their edges to promote air circulation. Make sure they don't touch the windows to avoid any contact with condensation.
Place small mattresses on the bed base, wall-side down.

🚿 Bathroom and Toilet

Clean and empty the shower drain, then plug the hole with a plastic bag or cloth to prevent unpleasant odors.
Turn off the water supply to the mobile home's outside supply and seal the system:

Open all faucets to empty the pipes,

Purge the water heater pipes,

Shut off the water supply to the toilet and flush the toilet several times to empty the bowl.
You can then place a garbage bag at the bottom of the empty bowl to prevent odors from rising.
Or use antifreeze in bowl.
