1926 Census is live. 100 years ago The Ryan Family were in residence. Thomas Snr, his son Thomas Jnr, Michael and Thomas Snr's sister in law Bridget Moyinhan from Ballylongford Co Kerry. Both Thomas Snr and Michael were running the bar and shop. While Thomas Jnr was classified as 'being deformed' unsure what is meant by this unfortunate term.

The National Archives are to congratulated on wonderful job in bring the Census to life and for the decision to make it free for all. A Census is after all our information and treasure trove for future generations.

At 45 Moore Street, for the first time maybe in a generation our beautiful surviving sash windows are open along with the shutters. Thankfully they are in reasonable condition and will with some love and care survive. On a lighter note while lifting the floor board we found a Kit Kat wrapper from 1980's!! However we have yet to find anything underneath the floorboards that will pay for the renovations 😉.

I hope you are all having a peaceful Christmas. As I normally note each year, on this day in 28th December 1811, Bartholemew Glynn signed a lease with John Ormsby Vandeleur, so begins the story of our house. Which is still standing quietly on the north eastern corner of The Market Square 214 years later. Here is photo of myself holding the lease in 2017. The lease has not aged unsure about myself!

Our past is all around us.

I guess we should never say never! Introducing 45 Moore Street, a unique and interesting building. The present building was built in c. 1900 replacing 2, 1790 houses. It was built by the Dowling family to house their banking/ money lending/ pawnbrokers business. Later, it was a Department of Social Welfare Office. A lot of its Edwardian exterior and interior survives, making it an important part of Kilrush's built heritage.

First on list is a 'new' roof, ensuring the building is once again water tight, followed by a period of drying out.
