The surrounding area is mountainous and hilly and there are excellent marked trails for walking enthusiasts, some of which are suitable for cyclists. Less than 15 minutes away is Carrick on Shannon, Ireland's stag and hen capital, where there are plenty of lively bars/restaurants/things to do
