This male cat was found in the Ballinamore area yesterday. He is very friendly, so he had an owner once and is not feral.

He is extremely underweight and has a chest infection.
Unfortunately he is FIV +.
He is not microchipped or neutered.

In Leitrim, many elderly people are struggling, especially those living alone with their beloved pets. Sadly, some are being forced to surrender these companions simply because they can no longer manage their care.

These are some of the most heartbreaking surrenders - for both the person and the animal.

We want to change that.

Leitrim Animal Welfare is launching a new volunteer programme to support elderly pet owners in their homes. The goal is to help with basic care: feeding, walking, or cleaning, so these special bonds between people and their pets can stay strong.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲.

We’re looking for 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 with 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
This is about protecting vulnerable people and animals, so trust and integrity are key.

🌟 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 💛🐾

Yesterday, something truly moving happened at our rescue. As Winton celebrated his 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆, not in a home but back in our care, a family walked through our gates carrying something more valuable than toys or treats - they brought 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.

Oonagh and her children adopted Enzo, Winton’s brother, last year. He was one of the lucky ones - one of seven puppies raised by our founder Christine, who gave them the gentlest start in life. But Winton, after being adopted, found himself back with us just weeks before his birthday.

Oonagh didn’t just remember Winton. She showed her children that 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, that 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽, especially when it matters most. They brought Winton presents and spent time with him - laughing, petting, reminding him he’s still cherished. 🐶🎁💕

But what stood out the most wasn’t the gifts - it was the 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘁. In a world that can feel rushed and indifferent, Oonagh is raising her children to 𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻, 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗹𝘆. She’s showing them that animals are not disposable, that promises matter, and that you don’t turn away just because it’s hard.

To see young children kneel beside a kennel, gently talking to a dog who’s had a rough start, is something we won’t soon forget. It’s the kind of moment that reminds us we’re planting seeds - not just in our dogs’ futures, but in the hearts of future generations. 🌱💞

We are endlessly grateful to families like Oonagh’s, parents who are raising children to 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, who are proving that empathy is a strength, not a weakness. They showed Winton he hasn’t been forgotten. And they showed all of us what real compassion looks like.

Thank you, Oonagh. Thank you for teaching your children to care. To show up. To never give up.

And to Winton’s forever family - we know you’re out there. Let’s make sure this boy's next birthday is filled with joy!

🚨 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶-𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝘀! 🐾
We’re currently helping a colony of semi-feral tortoiseshell and diluted tortoiseshell cats in Carrick-On-Shannon, and they’re scheduled to be neutered/spayed tomorrow.

These gorgeous kitties are in a very built-up area that isn’t safe for them long-term, and they urgently need somewhere quiet to recover after their surgery.

Our cattery is under renovation and will be ready in the coming weeks - but we need your help now to give them a safe, forever farm-style home!

✨ These cats are ideal farm or stable companions - independent, low-maintenance, and excellent natural pest control!

Ideally, we’d love to see them rehomed in pairs, as they’re used to being together.
📍 They will need to be kept in a secure, quiet shed or outbuilding for 2 weeks post-neutering, to help them settle into their new surroundings.

Each cat will:
✅ Be neutered/spayed
✅ Receive parasite treatment
✅ Be FIV/FeLV negative
✅ Have an ear tip to indicate they’re fixed

Meet Tim - a beautiful 3-year-old Collie with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. 💖
Tim is a lovely dog who is sure to make someone very happy. He absolutely loves to play ball 🎾 and is always up for a game!

Tim has a bit of a habit of holding onto his toys 🧸, so he would be best suited to an adult-only home or one with teenagers who can understand his need for space during playtime.

An ideal adventure buddy 🏕️, Tim enjoys his walks 🚶‍♂️ and would thrive with an active owner who is around for most of the day 🕒. Since arriving at our centre, Tim has been adjusting to a whole new way of life, up until now, he spent his days living on a chain ⛓️, so home life is still new to him. Despite this, he’s quickly learning and showing just how eager he is to be part of a loving family 🏡.

Tim walks beautifully on the lead 🐕, loves meeting other dogs 🐕‍🦺, and has also been fine around cats 🐱. He’s ready to start the next chapter of his life with someone who can offer him patience, companionship, and lots of love 💕.
