Italian anglers do well despite the bad weather conditions at Melview Fishing Lodge

https://fishinginireland.info/2025/pike-reports/italian-anglers-do-well-despite-the-bad-weather-conditions-at-melview-fishing-lodge/

Anglers Mariano, Antonello and Luca from Italy were over here for another pike fishing trip but this time decided to stay with host and guide Kevin at Melview Fishing Lodge. These guys could not have chosen a worse week weather wise for their fishing trip. These guys have been to Ireland before and know what the weather here can be like but made the comment that this had been the worst weather they have had to deal with, but this did not put them off of the task in hand and that was to catch pike.

The first day they were just able to use a boat safely but the days that followed it was deemed unsafe to fish using a boat,  and the high winds and rain did not stop them from fishing various places from the banks in horrendous conditions at times but they were still able to produce a few good pike and fished like true professionals. These guys know the true meaning of the word fishing and I enjoyed their company during their week’s stay. Thanks guys for your company and a few laughs along the way…we hope to see you in Ireland again soon.

Great Tench fishing for young UK angler

eo was treated to a fishing holiday in Ireland by his grand father Perry. It was their second trip to Ireland, but this time they decided to stay with Host Kevin at Melview Fishing Lodge.
It was mentioned that 11 year old Leo had never in his time fishing ever caught a tench so that was the target for host and anglers. They decided on fishing the feeder at a sort distance and the results were unbelievable. Not only did Leo manage to catch his first tench ever, the tench he did catch were all specimens! The biggest of fish fish weighed in at 6lb 5oz.
There were plenty of roach and small skimmers also caught but not put in the same net as the big for fish safety.

‘Well done Leo, it was a great achievement and also a big thank you to granddad Perry for taking the time out to ensure Leo had the best time.
Thanks again guys for your company during the week and the best of luck Leo for the future and keep going with the fishing and hope to see you again.’

Cracking Tench fishing in Longford

UK anglers Andy, Rod and Lee were here once again for their yearly fishing trip to Ireland to stay with their host Kevin at Melview Lodge. Kevin said “These guys put the work in, however the first two days didn’t go to plan as the fish just were not in the feeding mood. It was decided we would change the plan and prebait and fish two different venues for the remainder of the holiday, this proved very productive for them producing some cracking tench and bream from both places to specimen sizes. Well done guys and look forward to see you again soon!”

Regular Belgium anglers Jean-Pierre and son Nick along with long-time friend Alain were over for their third visit of the year to start their winter pike fishing season off, and what a great week it was for them. Host Kevin said, these guys have been coming here since 2007 / 8 and are like part of the furniture here and know most of the waters very well. On arrival and after getting there things together they decided to just go out fishing for two hours and managed four pike of 87, 90, 94 and 97cm which was a cracking start to their week at Melview Fishing Lodge. They used both lures and dead baits and both produced some lovely pike: 87 pike for the six days fishing with a lot of them over the 100cm and a good amount being in the 90’s.
Kevin said, I’m so glad for them as these guys just love there fishing. Over the years most of their trips have been excellent for them and some a bit tougher due to weather conditions but they always make the most of their fishing trips and have some fun along the way, Thank you again guys it was a pleasure and look forward to seeing you again in March.

Johan and Andrea for Holland were over to Melview Fishing Lodge once again for a pike fishing trip; they have been a few times before and just love fishing in the lakes and rivers of Ireland. Host Kevin Lyons said: these guys are happy-go-lucky anglers who just love to be out on the water taking in the nature and scenery that Ireland has to offer, and a few Pike along the way is a bonus for them. They managed some nice Pike during their trip, mainly trolling using lures along with a few dead bait sessions; it’s great to see you again, guys, and I hope to see you again next year.

Regular anglers Sean, Bill and John who are regular visitors to Melview Fishing Lodge in Longford were up for another pike session with host Kevin. Things got off to a slow start for the guys on day one but picked up on day two, they managed some lovely fish to 97cm using both lures and dead baits.

Kevin said the weather during their stay was changing from day to day, which I’m sure had a lot to do with the slow start. Thanks again guys and looking forward to seeing you again soon for the winter Pike fishing sessions.

Ron and Bert from Holland who are regular visiting anglers to Ireland and Melview Fishing Lodge had another good week’s fish. They fished three venues during their stay and prebaiting was involved in all three. All the hard work paid off for them producing some good Bream, Hybrids and Tench. Their preference was fishing the feeder at 40 yards into depths between 4m and 8m using various hook baits. Well done guys and thanks for another great week of fun and laughs and look forward to seeing you again next year!
Meanwhile, Richard from Washington USA was over in Ireland with his family to do some touring around and to track down some family ties in various parts of the Island. Richard is a keen angler back home so we decided to arrange a day’s Pike fishing for him with the possibility of a bit of Trout action. The start of the day started of slow but then a few Pike turned up to around 85cm, but the highlight of the day was a lovely Trout on a small lure. Kevin said, I can’t believe you got to see and do so much in your four days here but that thank you for the great company and hope to see you again some time.
