What a wonderful way to spend a Tuesday despite the gloomy skies and the crowds. Chelsea always supplies food for thought and inspiration. So enjoyed meeting so many like minded people and the Pavilion remains my favourite place.

Fascinating exhibition at the Carnavalet Museum, where Madame de Sévigné lived. Her early widowhood allowed her greater freedom and her letters give an insight into the cultural life of 17th -century Paris. Her letters were published after her death but were later widely read and admired for the insights into Parisian intellectual life.

Interesting Irish furniture and paintings in auctions last week, from Rossmore Castle, (Adams, at Howth Castle), which had been on loan to Castletown House, Co. Kildare, for the last 30 years and pieces originally in Castletown House (Mealys). The Irish George III secretaire with beautiful interior inlaid and decorated with fretwork and this stunning carved eagle was from Glynn Park, Wexford. Hard to resist! Howth Castle is open for tours and has a beautiful interior in a wonderful location.

A fantastic weekend at the Festival of Gardens held at Ballintubbert House with its beautiful gardens. Despite the terrible forecast the sun made regular appearances. From the effervescent Rory O’Connell, the thoughtful Dan Pearson, Robert O Byrne introducing Isabel Bannerman chatting to Christopher Moore. The list was long. Learnt about compost making and history of the spud from Klaus Laitenberger. (Definitely going to attend his course on Achill) Ended with the amazing Sarah Raven. Her colour sense is stunning. Phew 😮‍💨
