Carragh house is a newly purpose built to high spec bed and breakfast. In summer the house is fronted with vibrant flowers and a traditional stone wall. It is very inviting. At the door you will be greeted by the smile of Oonagh who is born and breed in castlebar. She is a lovely and warm women who will help you make the most of your time In the area. There are also brochures and books to read to guide you, and free maps.
The House
The wooden interior has a slightly modern flavour. It is both comforting and relaxing. It is two storied and features a lovely wooden staircase and the walls are covered with tasteful irish arts and crafts. The breakfast room has a fish tank and wooden antique pine hand made furniture. It is fitted with designer chairs and artefacts of irish history and are refreshing yet makes you wonder about times gone by. The front of house also has all day sun so its full of light. The top floor rooms are attic rooms which charactorise this style of home. All rooms are ensuite, and all have you would expect of a higher class of accommodation.
The Breakfast
Breakfast is a traditional Irish breakfast as good as you will find anywhere, and if you have variations in mind such as a continental breakfast Onnagh is very accommodating.
Location
Located in castlebar, Carragh House is an ideal spot to visit because it is a small medi evil town slightly off the beaten track yet very close to some of Ireland most popular tourist destinations. So its relatively quiet, intimate, and interesting. It is just slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the busy touristic areas County Mayo is famous for such as crough Patrick, achill island and a dozen beaches.
Castlebar is a town where people stop and talk to you, where local markets are vibrant, there are also a couple of beautifully preserved churches, a dozen local bars featuring nightly traditional irish music. Castlebar also has vibrant theatre community hosted by its main theatre. Its also a great place to explore genealogical roots as the rest of mayo is well within reach.
The bed and breakfast is located just five minutes walk from the main street of castlebar and so in an ideal location. It is also very close to the 2 main hospitals of mayo.
