Whitewood Lodges in Coolbawn (sometimes spelt Coolbaun) North Tipperary lies very close to the eastern edge of Lough Derg, southern Ireland’s largest lake, in fact we are ‘bang in the middle’, minutes from Coolbawn Quay, Kilbarron, Ballinderry Terryglass and Dromineer. Coolbawn Quay is rapidly becoming a premier centre for posh boats and fancy weddings. Dromineer, Terryglass and Portumna are other

well known boating centres. The area also boasts three well regarded golf clubs, Nenagh, Portumna and Birr (if your struggling with your drive you will end up in tears in Portumna)

As mentioned if you are into boats Coolbawn Quay, Dromineer, Portumna and Terryglass should satisfy your needs with great pub/food outlets in these centres.

17 minutes away you can get your shopping supplies in Nenagh (the areas main town) and Portumna, these boast several supermarkets so getting Heinz baked beans won’t be a problem. As for us at ‘Whitewood’
We have timber lodges, people tell us they are well appointed and comfortable, private lake (its compulsory to feed the ducks and swans, so buy an extra loaf) tennis court (yes we do have racquets and balls) and a large landscaped grass area for football or practicing your wedge shots. And us
Agnes, Tony, Biggles and Prudence. Prudence is a cat who will do her best to ignore you while Biggles is a four year old golden retriever who will do his best not to ignore you (I shout at him a lot!)

So if you are visiting friends or family or just want to take it easy in this rather unspoiled part of Ireland give us a call.

It’s been far too long since we have posted but we really thought it was worth sharing with you all the excitement we have had watching the lake come to life during the recent heatwave. If you look extra carefully at the background, you will even notice Mr. Heron waiting patiently! 🦅🐟
