Join us for a ‘Remember Me’ Night Climb and Shine Your Light for a Loved One on the 28th of March. 🌌

The Nephin Begers annual night climb takes place later this month and we’re looking forward to another great night.

The night climb is a sponsored climb that takes you up Buckagh mountain by torch light, following the path marked by the team. At the top you’ll be able to switch off your headlamps and torches to take in the beautiful night sky.

If you would like to take part, registration is €50 or you can complete a sponsorship card amounting to €50 or more. Cards can be picked up here in the pub or in local Hospice shops.

Registration takes place at 7pm in Brannen’s Bar, Newport, F26 F579, with the climb starting at 8pm. Transport is provided. Please don’t forget to wear warm/waterproof clothing, bring your walking boots or shoes and your own headlamps and walking poles.

Finally, the climb is in aid of mayoroscommonhospice foundation, a truly great cause. As we shine our lights for our loved ones, they continue to be a shining light in the community. 🌌 🥾

The Bangor Trail is calling! 📣🌄 Make sure to pre-register by contacting John on (087) 639 1777 to get ready for an adventure!

Join us for registration at Brannen's from 7am to 7:30am. And if you want to switch up your gear for the road section, just pack it in a labeled bag, and we’ll handle the transfer!

The registration fee of €75 covers transport and all other services including insurance and food stops.

Join the Nephin Begers hillwalking group on Saturday 21st June for their annual hike of the Bangor Trail. Experience Ireland's most isolated landscape on the 40km trail, starting in Bangor Erris and ending in Newport. Hike 24 km to the bothy in Letterkeen for boxty and refreshments, and then proceed to the finishing point in Newport.

Have you ever stopped to look at the stars at night?
The Nephin Begers Hillwalking Group are holding a night hike over Buckagh Mountain on Saturday 22nd March with all proceeds going to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation.
The hike is 9km in length, reaching a height of 580m at the summit of Buckagh mountain.
Registration takes place in Brannen’s Bar, Newport from 6pm with the hike commencing at 7pm. Requirements to take part are to pre-register via the contacts below (to ensure a seat on the coach) and to collect a sponsorship card and raise a minimum of €50 or pay €50 at time of registration.
Sponsorship cards are available from Brannen’s of Newport, and you can also request a card in any of the Hospice shops, or text/WhatsApp the Nephin Begers group at 087 214 2762 or email [email protected].

Delighted to have had the Pub Runners stop in to us today 🪕🎸🥃 Thanks for the music and the craic - you're welcome back anytime 🍻

Greetings from Ireland. Our tour group capped off day three with a stop at Brannens of Newport. Jerry and Doug led the group in three songs. Stops today included Cong, Kylemore Abbey in the Hills Connemara, Croagh Patrick Mountain and finally Newport. Tomorrow we leave Westport stopping in Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher before ending up in Killarney.

Our next Rambling House is this evening Monday 1st July in Brannens (function room) starting at 8pm sharp.
An evening to revive the old Irish tradition where people came together to be entertained by songs, recitations, stories, jokes, music, and dance.
We welcome all on the night from near and far. A cup of tea and light refreshments will be served at half time! So come and join us for a great night of traditional Irish entertainment and craic, no pressure to perform. Bring yourself, your instrument, your poems, stories, steps and songs to share and enjoy. Hope to see you all there!!

Bill Brannen (Chambers) - where Brannens Bar began ☘️

William (Bill) Chambers opened the pub with his brother Paddy in 1951, on St. Patrick’s Day 🇮🇪 making the pub over 70 years old!

At the time, the pub was also a grocers, where they ran a travelling shop.

The shop would travel around Newport bringing groceries to the locals. Can anyone guess what routes the shop would take?
