A century apart, and somehow the same story.
While looking through old family photographs of Barrow House, we discovered this remarkable image taken in 1926 by the Hudson family, who had just bought the house from the McCowen family. Sitting proudly on the front steps are two beloved dogs — a quiet reminder that even a hundred years ago, this house was filled not only with people, but with affection for animals and the warmth they bring to a home.
What makes the discovery even more extraordinary is that, entirely unknowingly, we had taken almost the exact same photograph ourselves nearly 100 years later. Betty and Hudson — our own two companions — sitting on the very same steps in almost the same pose. And, by complete coincidence, the little white dog is called Hudson, without us ever knowing the connection to the family who captured the original image all those years ago.
There is something deeply comforting in that. Different generations, different lives, but the same understanding that a country house is nothing without its inhabitants — and that dogs are never just pets. They create atmosphere, companionship, mischief, comfort and soul.
Some things change over a century. Thankfully, some things do not.
