From Aughagower to Ottawa. A historic homecoming!. There was a massive buzz around our home parish of Aughagower last weekend, and we couldn't be prouder. We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney back to Aughagower as he traced the steps of his paternal grandparents, Robert Carney and Nora Moran, who left Aughagower, Westport, Co. Mayo for Canada back in 1925. To see our local streets lined with Canadian flags, watch him attend morning mass at St. Patrick’s Church, and plant an Irish oak near the graves of his great-grandparents was a truly unforgettable moment for the community.For our guests staying at The Yellow House, we always tell them that this corner of West Mayo is steeped in incredible history—from St Patrick to our ancient Round Tower to the Tóchar Phádraig pilgrim path.
