לא סתם ההוסטל שלנו נקרא "סינמה הוסטל" - ההוסטל שוכן במבנה ההיסטורי של קולנוע "אוריאון" אחד מבתי הקולנוע הראשונים שהיו בירושלים, עוד משנת 1938.
לפני פתיחתו של קולנוע אוריאון, בעלי בית הקולנוע יצאו בתחרות - הם קראו לציבור לשלוח הצעות לשמות. מי שהציע את השם הנבחר זכה בשישה חודשים כניסה חינם לקולנוע.

מה אתם אומרים?
כמה סרטים ראה הזוכה בחצי השנה הזאת (תזכרו שבשנות ה 30 לא הייתה טלויזיה, לא היה פלאפון, או מחשב או אקסבוקס)?

It’s no coincidence we’re called Cinema Hostel – our hostel is located in the historic building of the legendary Orion Cinema, one of the very first movie theaters in Jerusalem, dating all the way back to 1938.

Before Orion officially opened, its owners held a public contest:
They invited people to send in name suggestions, and the person who came up with the winning name received six months of free entry to the cinema!
This was the original ad (translated from Hebrew):

“A prize of six months' free entry to the cinema will be awarded to anyone who suggests a suitable name for the new theater, soon to be completed on Ben Yehuda Street, built by Messrs. Dabbah–Mizrahi. Suggestions in sealed envelopes should be sent to the Edison Theater office by April 10. A special committee will decide.”

So… what do you think?
How many films do you reckon the winner watched during those six months?
(Remember: in the 1930s, there was no TV, no smartphones, no computers, and definitely no Xbox.)

אם מייסדי המדינה היו באים לישון אצלנו – איזה חדר בסינמה הוסטל הם היו בוחרים?

הרצל- לא בטוחים איזה חדר יבחר, אבל הוא בטוח יסתכל מהמרפסת שלנו וידמיין חזון אוטופי.
גולדה מאיר- כנראה הייתה בחדר משותף בנים בנות, כי אף גבר לא יכתיב לה איפה היא יכולה להיות.
דוד בן גוריון- חדר משותף, כמה שיותר קרוב לתחושה של קיבוץ, במיטה העליונה, כדי שיהיה לו מספיק מקום לעמידת ראש.
משה דיין- קפסולת יחיד בוודאות. חדרים זה לחלשים!
אנחנו לא הצלחנו לחשוב על מי ממייסדי המדינה ייקח לו חדר פרטי, יש לכם רעיון?

If the founders of the State of Israel came to crash at Cinema Hostel – which room would they choose?

Golda Meir – probably in the mixed dorm, because no man is going to tell her where she can or can't be.
Herzl – not sure which room he'd pick, but one thing's for sure: he'd be standing on our balcony dreaming up some utopian vision.
David Ben-Gurion – definitely a shared dorm, as close as possible to the kibbutz vibe. Top bunk, of course – he needs space for those headstands.
Moshe Dayan – Single Bunk Capsule. Rooms are for the weak!
We couldn’t figure out which one of them would go for a private room. Got any ideas?

נכון, בחדר פרטי יש שקט, פרטיות ונוחות. אבל בחדר משותף – שם קורה הקסם 🎸
הדורמס בסינמה הוסטל הם המקום שבו נרקמות החברויות הכי לא צפויות, והסיפורים הכי יפים מתחילים.
גיטרה שמתחילה לנגן לידך במיטה, ואת נשארת ערה רק עוד רגע – כי פשוט כיף להקשיב.
שיחות של 3 בלילה עם מישהו מהחצי השני של העולם, פתאום מרגישות כמו שיחה עם חבר ילדות.
הצחוקים, ההמלצות, הקפה הראשון של הבוקר ביחד – כל אלו יוצרים קהילה של זרים שהופכים למשפחה של רגעים ☕
אז אם בא לך לפגוש את העולם – הדורמס מחכים לך 🛏️✨
