Binsar Forest Retreat is situated in the upper reaches of the Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary (7,600 ft) amidst a dense oak forest. It is surrounded by the sounds and sights of wilderness with superb views of the higher Himalayas to the north and the valleys and hills to the south and west. Preetam, Pallavi and Aahna, along with friend and partner Rajesh, run the resort with sensitivity to travellers' need for peace, quiet and self-discovery while being mindful of the local environment.

Aipan (ऐपण) is the traditional folk art practiced by the women folk of Kumaon which involves painting beautiful motifs with white on a red background. It uses natural colors, red earth or गेरू for red and rice paste for white. Aipan is derived from the Hindi word अर्पण, which means an offering to the divine.

Janki from a village nearby did Aipan on one of our walls, and we were mesmerised.
