Hospitality is among the fastest evolving industries in the Indian service sector. Hence, its demand for skilled and trained manpower increases continuously. In parallel, Bihar’s young adults need to receive professional training in order to enter the labor market and generate sufficient livelihood for themselves and their families. Agragami India, a non-profit organization whose goal is to improve the quality of life in rural and urban areas, has taken action to set up a hospitality training school in Bodhgaya. This school’s model was design to answer the needs of both, the Indian hospitaliy industry and Bihar’s underprivileged youth. To set up the Bodhgaya Hotel School, Agragami India has collaborated with two Swiss associations; IFPD and EHL Smile. The latter is an association founded by students from Ecole hôlière de Lausanne, one of the world's leading hotel management schools, to share the Swiss hospitality know-how with underpriviledged youth all around the world. The EHL Smile model which has been implemented in Bodhgaya is the unique combination of a school with a running hotel. The Bodhgaya Hotel School students are given high-quality training based on the principle of "learning by doing". The program is a combination of theoretical classes and practical work in the operations during which the students benefit from real guest exposure from their very first day.
