Had a pre-Holi party in my neighbourhood. The dress code was red and white, and the only accessories were the glint in their eyes and the smiles on their faces.
They sang local folk songs, some perfectly in tune and some confidently not, and laughter filled in wherever the melody didn’t. They pulled each other’s legs with great enthusiasm and indulged in just the right amount of neighbourhood gossip.
There were platefuls of crisp pakoras and syrupy jalebis, followed by steaming hot cups of chai, served with equally warm, radiant smiles.
I would call it a Holi sundowner. It was sweet. It was loud. It was colourful, an imitation of spring itself, unruly, vibrant, and full of heart ♥️
