Had a pre-Holi party in my neighbourhood. The dress code was red and white, and the only accessories were the glint in their eyes and the smiles on their faces.

They sang local folk songs, some perfectly in tune and some confidently not, and laughter filled in wherever the melody didn’t. They pulled each other’s legs with great enthusiasm and indulged in just the right amount of neighbourhood gossip.

There were platefuls of crisp pakoras and syrupy jalebis, followed by steaming hot cups of chai, served with equally warm, radiant smiles.

I would call it a Holi sundowner. It was sweet. It was loud. It was colourful, an imitation of spring itself, unruly, vibrant, and full of heart ♥️

Uffff!

Do you have a place where you can go, where you feel completely free,
where you can just be,
and be present.

This is my place,
Welcome to my world!

Some people carry a quiet way of seeing.
They don’t announce it, they don’t chase it, they simply notice.

These images were made by Akhil, while he spent a few days with us at Tridiva.
I realised how gently he observes the world, and how rarely he shares his work.

So this is me borrowing his way of seeing,
to tell the story of the moments he captured at Tridiva.

Scroll to the last image to meet the photographer himself,
clicked by me in Ladakh,
and posted here despite his very clear discomfort with being photographed 🙊

Went out for a walk with the intention of noticing.
Not the big views — the small, almost invisible things.

Dried flowers.
Tender buds.
Wilting leaves.

They grow, look beautiful, wither, return.

They don’t need validation.
Nothing in nature does.

How did we forget,
that just being was enough?

It’s been 25 years since Uttarakhand got its statehood, and for me it’s just not any state, it’s home.

It’s a home I know I could spend my entire life exploring and still never have enough of. There isn’t a single day when I’m not filled with awe, reverence, and gratitude for where I live — for its temples, mountains, rivers, lakes, its people, and the quiet divinity this land holds.

It’s no wonder that everyone who comes here feels it, and carries a part of it back with them.

For all of us who visit, and all of us who live here, I hope we remain mindful and protect this extraordinary land, so it stays sacred for generations to come.

Today, Gwaldam witnessed its first half-marathon — a 21 km run from Gwaldam to Talwari and back. The participation was heartening. The youth showed up, enthusiastic and energetic.

This wasn’t just a run — it was a “Run Against Drugs.” A reminder that we don’t always need alcohol or substances to feel good about ourselves, to celebrate, or to connect. Sport is one way of discovering the real strength that lies within us, and when we choose a healthier life, we build healthier communities.

This event was organised by the Hashtag Believer Foundation, the Social Welfare Department & District Administration Chamoli. The SSB Headquarters at Gwaldam provided all the ground support needed to make this event possible.

As I watched the runners push forward through the winding mountain roads, I couldn’t help but feel proud of every single one of them — for their spirit, determination, camaraderie, and the powerful message they carried with each step.

Happy guests = Happy host 💛

There’s nothing better than knowing we have created a little home away from home where anyone can truly feel like they belong. That’s what makes hosting so special — warm smiles, shared stories, and a world that feels authentic, smaller, and friendlier!

Today felt like the first whispers of winter. Clad in a light sweater, I stood on the terrace with my camera, watching the sun paint the big white mountains in shades of yellow and orange.

After a day of heavy rain, the grey skies slowly gave way to blue, and the clouds that had draped the peaks began to lift. Not completely — the lingering grey and white clouds only made the scene more dramatic.

As the last light of the sun faded, the full moon rose behind the clouds. Its silver glow lit up the valley, making everything shimmer. Today is said to be the brightest moon of the year and I too followed the special tradition of preparing kheer and leaving it outside, letting the moon’s rays bless it and make it even more special.

Tomorrow’s breakfast menu has a Sharad Purnima special — Moonlit Kheer! ✨

The Ghughutiya festival, celebrated in Uttarakhand during Makar Sankranti, marks the sun’s northward journey and the return of migratory birds. It also honors crows, inspired by a folk tale where they saved a prince from danger.

Long ago, King Kalyanchand of Kumaon prayed for a son. His wish was granted, and the queen gave birth to Nirbhaychand, lovingly called Ghughuti. The prince was pampered and often amused by his tinkling waistband. The queen playfully teased him by inviting crows to take him away, feeding them affectionately.

A scheming minister, eager to seize the throne, hired assassins to abduct the boy. A crow, sensing the danger, gathered others and created such a ruckus that the kidnappers fled, leaving the prince behind. The lead crow carried Ghughuti’s waistband to the queen, who sent soldiers to rescue him. The prince was safely brought home, and the grateful queen fed the crows in thanks—a gesture that became a tradition.

To celebrate Ghughutiya, sweet dough made from wheat flour and jaggery is shaped, fried, and strung into garlands called Ghughute. Children offer these garlands to crows at sunrise, chanting, “Kale kauva kale, Ghughuti mala khale,” to honor the crows and seek blessings.

This Makar Sankranti, may we continue to cherish our traditions and may the blessings of our ancestors always be with us 🙏❤️
