ARTS & LITERATURE at Thrissur
1. Institute of Mural Paintings: The institute which is situated in
the Kizhakke Nada of Guruvayoor temple provides training in mural
paintings,art history,aesthetics, Sanaskrit, Silpa texts and Dhyanasloka.
2. Kerala Kalamandalam: The Kearla Kalamndalam, located at
Cheruthuruthy is renowned in the world for its Kathakali training center.
This music and dance academy was founded by famous poet Vallathol
Narayana Menon. You can sign up for a two month course if interested
and learn about the 600 hand gestures and 9 facial rasams (emotions)
that an artist must master. It is located at 30.3km from Thrissur city.
3. Kearal Lalitha Kala Academy: The academy supports artists
through workshops, artist camps and exhibitions, Ph: 0487233373,

4. Kerala Sahitya Academy: On the way to the Town Hall, the
academy is located on a Bunglow and was established in the year 1956
to promote Malayalam literature and language. Ph: 0487 2331069.
5. Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy: The academy was established
to train, preserve and patronize music and dance forms of
Kerala. The Sangeetha Nataka Academy sees regular expositions of theatre,

6. Town Hall: Onthe way to museum, Town Hall is an excellent
monument if erstwhile Thrissur's administrative, military and cultural his-
tory. It houses the Chitralayam Gallery, where mural paintings from all
parts of Kerala are on display.
7. Unnayi Warrier Smaraka Kalanilayam, lrinajalakuda :
Unnayi Warrier Smaraka Kalanilayam is world Famous centre for learning
Kathakali and other performing Arts. The institution is located in at Irin-
jalakuda of Thrissur district.
