Many people are wondering how’s the visual effect and quality of DVDRip, HDRip, BRRip or BDRip
while comparing with 1080p.
First, there is conceptual confusion about the comparsion. DVDRip,HDRip,BRRip or BDRip are
actually the form or name of video files, and they did not express any meaning of the resolution.
1080p is one of the factors that judge the resolution of videos, but there are other factors available,
and they play decisive roles in video’s resolution. Even two videos are 1080p, they may come with
different resolutions/qualities because of different decisive factors such as re-encode, bit rate, frame
rate, original source and etc.
So, if we want to compare the quality of DVDRip, HDRip, BRRip or BDRip and 1080p, we need to
set some preconditions. According to the resolution, BDRip can be divided into 720p and 1080p.
If they have same original source (blue-ray), encode as well as bit rate, BDRip 1080p offers better
quality than BDRip 720p.
If the original source is DVD, videos can also be divided into 720p and 1080p based on the
resolution. In the case of same original (blue-ray), same encode (H.264) and same bit rate, the
comparison results of quality are as follows:
HDRip 1080p > DVDRip 1080p
HDRip720p > DVDRip 720P
What are the differences between two videos having same encode & bit rate, but different original
source & resolution? Normally,
BDRip 1080p > HDRip 1080p > DVDRip 1080P
BDRip 720p > HDRip 720p > DVDRip 720p
In addition to the original source, different encode and different bit rate will have big influences in
video’s quality.
Encode selection: H.265 = HEVC =VP 9 > H.264 > DivX > XViD
Bit rate selections
For 1080p, we suggest you choose 10M and above (above 10,000kbps).
For 720p, we suggest you choose above 4,000 or 4M kbps and above.
