If a situation ever comes where I feel that my values and my country’s pride are being ignored, I will not stay silent just for the sake of playing in a league.

That’s why I’ve said clearly — if Kavya Maran does not release Pakistani player Abrar Ahmed, then Abhishek Sharma and I would rather release ourselves from the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. We would not play for that franchise again. Some people may call this emotional, but I call it standing by what you believe in.

Modern cricket is changing fast. Today there is huge money, big auctions, and business decisions everywhere. But I still feel there must be a line where players remember who they represent and what their country means to millions of fans watching them.

I respect every player’s talent, but at the end of the day, pride for your nation should always be above league politics or franchise interests. If standing by that belief costs me an IPL team, so be it.
