Chitrakoot Home is in Bloom!

If you happen to visit Chitrakoot Home now, you will be welcome by a riot of colors. No, we are not talking Holi Festival – come spring and our garden is filled with flowers like Dahlia, Aster, Dianthus, Petunia, Salvia, Larkspur, Nasturtium, Pansy, and Bougainvillea etc.

A visit to Khalanga War Memorial is a recommended site. Though the site today boasts of a small memorial, it is one of the most important sites not only in the history of Nepal and the British East India Company but also for Garhwal.

It was here a fierce battle of “Nalapani” was fought between Gurkhas and the British East India Company that changed the history and geography of Nepal. It is here Gorkhas established their reputation of being the top-class worrier. The stone plaque at the site tells the tales of valor.

A drive through Sal forest to the hillock is beautiful and if you are a keen walker or a bicycle enthusiast then visit here is a must.

If you are a bird enthusiast then Dehradun is certainly in your mind. Chitrakoot Home is an ideal accommodation for birders, located very close to Forest Research Institute one of the birding hotspots in Dehradun city, one can count about 30/ 40 bird species in Chitrakoot Home itself. Sharing some of the bird images seen at Chitrakoot Home.

Many nearby birding hotspots such as Rio Resorts (Garhi Cantt), Lachhiwala, Maldevta and Kumalda Village, Thano Forest, Assan Wetlands and Conservation Reserve, Dak Pathhar, Kalsi Shahanshai Ashram Area, Rajaji National Park, Devalsari etc. are half an hour to two hour’s drive from our homestay.

The most iconic landmark of Dehradun “Clock Tower”.

An interesting monument of independent India, its architecture is one of its kind in the whole of Asia this tower is hexagonal in shape inspired by Greco-Roman style architecture. Located in the center of the city, its hard to miss it when you are in Dehradun.
