A Sweet Honey Day at Gharoa Bagan..

"ফুলের বনে যার পাশে যাই তারেই লাগে ভালো..."

A golden visitor for a golden morning. This tiny Dwarf Honey Bee spent its day lost in the velvet heart of our Amaryllis, reminding us of the quiet, sweet work that keeps our garden thriving.

In the living archives of Gharoa, every pollinator is a guest of honor and every bloom is a celebration of life.

Gharoa Bagan: A Living Canopy of Colors

Nestled atop the Gharoa Home Museum, the Gharoa Bagan (Homely Garden) serves as a vibrant, breathing extension of the museum’s mission to preserve heritage and foster connection. Just as the museum archives the stories of generations past through artifacts and textiles, this rooftop sanctuary archives the beauty of the natural world, offering a serene escape amidst the urban landscape.

The Desert Rose Collection are the crown jewels of Gharoa Bagan. They are the Adeniums commonly known as Desert Rose. These resilient plants, characterized by their sculptural, bulbous trunks (caudexes) and brilliant trumpet-shaped blooms, create a stunning visual tapestry against the skyline.

A Sustainable Sanctuary Gharoa Bagan is more than just a collection of flora, it is a testament to mindful urban living.

The garden is designed with a focus on:

Biodiversity: By providing a nectar-rich environment, the rooftop attracts local pollinators, turning a concrete space into a vital ecological stepping stone.

Creative Upcycling: In harmony with the museum’s ethos, the garden utilizes thoughtful planting solutions, such as the mesh wrapped pots to manage drainage and soil health effectively.

Intergenerational Peace: This is a space meant for quiet reflection and family storytelling, where the "homely" feel of the garden encourages everyone to slow down and reconnect with the earth.

In the Gharoa Bagan, the boundary between the "home" and the "natural world" dissolves. It is a place where the sun drenched walls of the museum meet the vivid life of the rooftop, proving that even in the heart of the city, there is always room for a garden to grow.

Whether it is the striking silhouette of a Desert Rose or the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze, Gharoa Bagan stands as a flourishing tribute to the beauty of heritage, sustainability, and home.

Museums usually house artifacts of cloth, clay, or vintage tech. But today, the Gharoa Home Museum adds a different kind of treasure: a Common Mormon (Papilio polytes) found in our rooftop garden.

We found this beautiful specimen still and breathless. Rather than letting its journey end in the soil, we chose to preserve its intricate beauty for the future keepers of our museum and our planet.

This isn’t just a biological specimen; it’s a tribute to a mother’s legacy.

Growing up, our curator watched her mother, Zoologist Debasri Basu, turn their home into a world of wonder through her scientific preservations. Today, under her expert guidance, our curator is bringing those same techniques to Gharoa Home Museum.

By adding these preservations to Gharoa, we are bridging three generations through the lens of zoology and heritage education.

For the curator, this is a homecoming. It’s an opportunity to give her own children the same magical, inquisitive childhood she enjoyed with her mother, where every wing and scale tells a story of resilience and wonder.

Let us save these black-and-white wings and always find them dancing over our city’s rooftops.

Thank you so much , for your time to look through our collection with such a keen and caring eye.

Seeing you dive into our collection was truly blessed moment for us. Your expert perspective on how we can better conserve and restore these pieces, which hold so much family history means a lot to us. Collecting items are much easier, but to ensure they survive for the next generation is something to learn. Your advice has given us a lot of clarity on how to do that.

We really appreciated the passion you have gifted to our little "home museum". Please visit us soon with your family.

Warm regards

Dear Dr. Sanju,

At Gharoa Home Museum, our greatest success is when a visitor feels it like home. We were so moved to hear that our space brought you a sense of peace.

Happy International Day of Happiness..

At Gharoa Home Museum, we believe that happiness isn’t just found in grand gestures; it’s tucked away in the quiet moments of connection and the simple act of looking out for one another.

Joy multiplies when we share our resources, our time, and even the space with the world around us.

Finding peace in the rhythm of the natural world reminds us that we are all part of one big home.

"Happiness is the only thing that doubles when you share it." — Albert Schweitzer

Let us take a moment to share something—a smile, a story, or a helping hand. Let’s make the world more kinder.

A Heartfelt Thank You

It was a true pleasure to host you at Gharoa Home Museum. Seeing our collection of vintage tech, timepieces, and curiosities spark such genuine joy and nostalgia is exactly why we opened our doors.

We loved seeing you engage with the exhibits, whether it was testing out the vintage sunglasses, marveling at the evolution of mobile phones, watches or simply enjoying a quiet moment on our roof. Your curiosity brings these artifacts to life and helps us continue our mission of preserving the everyday history that often goes overlooked.

It was wonderful watching you explore the collection of classic Nokia handsets.

We’re glad you enjoyed the display of vintage watches and the mechanical curios scattered throughout the home.

From the Corridors of Gharoa: A Tribute to Resilience

As the Delhi sun begins its steady climb toward the heat of summer, Mother Nature offers us a masterclass in patience. This orchid bud, captured in the soft light of March in our garden, isn't just a flower-to-be; it is a profound symbol of resilience.

At Gharoa Home Museum, we speak of heritage—the things that endure through time. Today, on International Women’s Day, we see that same endurance in this orchid. Just as our museum treasures the stories of generations past, this bud reminds us that strength is often found in quiet preparation. It doesn't rush; it gathers its power in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to bloom.

Happy Women’s Day to the nurturers, the creators, and the resilient spirits, the women in our histories and the nature in our gardens. Let us make the world a more beautiful and sustainable place.
