As SUJÁN The Serai prepared to welcome a new season, the rhythms of life soften once again. Mornings stretch slowly over the Great Thar Desert. The air warms, and the gentle breeze carries the scent of wild herbs. Immersed within a gentle stillness, it is a time to begin again.

“Inspired by the great caravan camps that once dotted Rajasthan’s desert routes, SUJÁN The Serai, Relais & Châteaux - Association of unique hotels & restaurants pairs the romance of desert travel with the comforts of a contemporary retreat. Set across a private 100-acre estate of indigenous desert scrub, about 45 minutes from Jaisalmer, the camp helped redefine luxury travel in the Thar through a conservation-led approach that remains central to the SUJÁN philosophy.“ 🖊️ Condé Nast Traveller India

We were honoured to recently partner with The Herds a groundbreaking public art movement created to inspire climate action and renew our connection with the natural world.

Since 2025, life-sized puppet animals have travelled from Kinshasa in the Congo Basin to Nordkapp in the Arctic Circle, across deserts to the cities of Europe in one of the most ambitious public art projects ever attempted. Most recently finding their way to London to celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday at The Royal Albert Hall.

A meeting of shared passions and purpose brought us together with the brilliant minds behind and the extraordinarily talented artisans of Ukwanda Puppets in Cape Town, South Africa. However, it was clear to us that two very important animals were missing from the processions: the Royal Bengal tiger and the Indian leopard, two species especially close to SUJÁN’s heart.

In support of mission, & commissioned two magnificent, life-sized puppets, bringing these iconic species to life and into the movement.

The tiger and leopard were first spotted for the first time in the wild at their home in the British countryside, where their unexpected arrival surprised our guests as part of SUJÁN’s Summer Silver Jubilee celebrations.

They have since taken their place alongside the giraffes, elephants, lions, gorillas, kudu, zebra and many more, carrying with them a powerful message about the biodiversity crisis and the growing threats facing wildlife around the world.

For us, this collaboration has been a truly meaningful expression of an enduring commitment: to raising awareness to conserve wildlife, supporting the arts and preserving the cultural traditions that connect people to place.

In 2027, our tiger and leopard will continue their journey around the world with , carrying this vital message to new audiences and new places.

With thanks to 🐅 🐆

🇮🇳 Today marks India’s Independence Day. 🇮🇳 May the tiger, our National Animal, forever be found, at home, in the wild in our Indian forests. Wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day!🙏🏻 🐅 🐅
