was a part of the Heritage walk conducted by to witness the marvels of Delhi's syncretic culture inside the complex.

Inside the complex, on display were Quwwatul Islam, the first mosque of modern India, Qutub Minar - the tallest brick minaret in the world, a failed attempt by Alauddin Khilji to build the longest minar. The iron pillar still stands strong! The tall structures are the cultural heritage of Sultans, khiljis and tughlaks passed on to the generations of Indians.

The parking facilities at the site are good and towards the end of the walk, we saw scores of school children walking and exploring the complex.

Have you planned your visit to the world heritage site yet?

Time to celebrate the Jagannath Rath Yatra. This yatra is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, considered the Lord of the Universe, as per Hindu traditions.

🛕Religious significance:

As per Hindu sacred texts, Subhadra, the younger sister of Lord Jagannath and Balabhadra desired to travel to Puri. To fulfill her wish, the two brothers left for the city in a chariot. Since the 1500s (the first festival dates back to 1558), the people of Puri have celebrated this annual procession to commemorate the divine siblings journey from their paternal home to aunt's home.

Name of 3 chariots:

Lord Jagannath's chariot is referred to as Nandighosh while the chariots of Lord Balabhadra is called Taladhwaja and that of Devi Subhadra is called Darpadalana.

May Lord Jagannath bless us all!

A walk through Malcha Mahal

Heritage walk by Hidden Heritage in association with

Malcha Mahal is a 697 years old monument, built in 1325 by the then Sultan Firoz Shah Tughlaq . It was used as a hunting lodge at the time. Later , it became the residence of the descendants of the Nawab of Awadh.

It is said that it came to be known as ‘Wilayat Mahal’ after Begum Wilayat Mahal of Awadh, who claimed that she was a member of the royal family of Oudh. She was given the palace by the government in 1985.

Malcha Mahal is considered Delhi's most haunted places. There are reports that many people have come out scared or have not come out at all!

During today's walk, while heading down the road to the monument, some participants saw some wolfs on the restricted road. Furthermore, while walking around the monument, the group saw shredded snake skin looking like a white plastic wrapping sheet.

Notwithstanding all the reports, the Heritage walk was an eye opener about the history of the place and the amazing view of Delhi from the rooftop.

Heritage means different things to different people but for heritage lovers it means just one thing... Deriving inspiration from the past to improve the present!

On Sunday, brought together many heritage enthusiasts for an informative walk through 3 monuments:

1. Safdarjung Tomb- Mughal Emperor Ahmed Shah Bahadur bestowed the title of Safdarjung to Prime Minister of Hindustan to Muhammad Muqim-in-Khursan who is entombed here by his son Nawab Sujaudwalaq. The resemblance to Humayun’s Tomb cannot be denied at the first sight of the tomb including the vast gardens around.

2. Najaf Khan tomb- Najaf Khan was a Baloch in origin and came to a india looking for fame. He was a soldier with a political leaning and served well in the court of Shah Alam II. He got his sister married to the Nawab of Awadh and fought well against the East India Company in the 1764 battle of Buxar. His efforts on the battlefield were well rewarded when he was asked to shift to Delhi to serve as the leader of the Mughal army. Unfortunately, he was at the helm of affairs of a waning dynasty and at the fag end.

3. Dariya Khan tomb- Dariya Khan was a judge during the period of rule of Lodhi and he is understood to have seen the tenure of 3 successive Lodhi kings in India. The tomb is a unique structure with no trace of any tomb or cover over the grave but with four cenotaphs at the corners.
