With young people making up over 40% of Nepal’s population, meaningful is essential to building and advancing intergenerational equity that goes beyond token representation.

Join us for ‘From the Frontlines to the Policy Table: Nepali Youth and Climate Justice’, co-hosted by Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA) and Youth Action for Sustainable and Eco Nepal (YASEN), to hear from young climate activists, grassroots organisers, policy researchers and government representatives about why voices must be at the heart of and capacity building.

This session will explore barriers to youth participation, amplify frontline experiences, and identify pathways for better engagement in climate policy, with emphasis on intergenerational equity embedded in UNFCCC processes.

As climate change reshapes water availability, communities need the knowledge, systems and local leadership to adapt and build lasting water resilience.

As part of the 'Community Led Action Plan (CLAP) for Climate Resilient Water Security in four tea gardens of Darjeeling and Kurseong' project, ICLEI South Asia is helping communities across four tea garden hamlets in the Darjeeling Himalayas turn local priorities into action.

From developing Water Security Plans to pilot interventions and building local knowledge, the project is creating the foundations for community-led water management.

This is the second instalment of our year-long series, where we will showcase the people, processes and solutions shaping a more climate-resilient water future in the Darjeeling Himalayas.

This International Youth Day, ICLEI-South Asia celebrates the energy, ideas, and aspirations of the youth!

From giving young innovators a platform through the Youth for Climate Hackathon, to supporting co-creation of solutions for safer and inclusive urban mobility; from creating opportunities to build skills in climate resilience and social inclusion, to helping children connect with food, nature and sustainability through school food gardens, our work is rooted in the belief that meaningful youth participation is essential to sustainable development.

We recognise both the diversity and interconnectedness of youth experiences, and celebrate every young person imagining a better future and working to make their communities more sustainable, inclusive and resilient.

Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.

Happy International Youth Day 2026!

What does it take for a country to know where its emissions come from?

Behind every national climate target is a less visible, but essential system: the ability to measure, calculate, track and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

For Kiribati, developing that system is now underway.

ICLEI-South Asia, as the Secretariat for the Asia LEDS Partnership, is undertaking its second mission to Tarawa, Kiribati, as part of the “Development of a National GHG Inventory for Kiribati” project. The project is establishing a structured national GHG emissions inventory system and strengthening coordination among relevant ministries and stakeholders. The mission marks an important step in building the national capacity needed to operate, maintain and continuously improve the GHG emissions inventory.

A nationally-housed and led GHG inventory system will support Kiribati’s future climate reporting and NDC implementation, and enable the nation to progressively manage and sustain its national GHG emission reporting and tracking.

During the team’s mission, government officials and technical stakeholders participated in training on the fundamentals of national GHG inventories including technical methodologies and approaches, guidelines and principles for emissions estimation, data management, quality assurance and check processes, and inventory reporting cycles. They received practical demonstration of the Kiribati National GHG Inventory Tool, currently being developed by ICLEI South Asia. The trainings help establish a shared knowledge base for the continued development and management of the national inventory.

Kiribati is one of the first Pacific Island nations to develop a dedicated national GHG inventory tool to support its own GHG emissions accounting and reporting. The tool is being developed to reflect Kiribati’s local context and provide a structured platform for undertaking, managing and updating GHG emissions estimates. The goal is to strengthen the institutional ownership and technical capacity required to establish a sustainable, nationally managed inventory system.
