We are prepping for a big biking group heading our way in a couple of weeks. To make the space warm and cozy, we installed a couple of cane baskets as new lampshades which kept costs really low.
Next, it was time to put our new brush cutter to the test. It absolutely devoured the dense weeds and thorny bushes in the common areas, which was a huge help. We cleared a good chunk of the farm, but there’s still plenty of ground to cover before we can access every corner.
Another productive day well spent! We can't wait to share this space with everyone soon!

The flooring on our multi purpose hall is almost done with a local mason finishing what we had started last weekend. One more layer of oxide with a polish should do the job. Keeping fingers crossed 🤞
Next on the list is adding some ambient lighting and installing a ceiling fan for those warm days. Excited to see how this turns out.

What a day for a farm project deep dive!
Today, we tackled laying the oxide flooring in our multi-purpose hall, working alongside our caretaker and his family.
We quickly realized we had bitten off more than we could chew! Seriously underestimating the sheer scale and technical challenge. Getting the measuring, marking, and the crucial taper right to prevent any water stagnation was a huge, humbling lesson. YouTube research didn't prepare us enough for this challenge 😀.
After a quick reassessment (and a lot of sweat!), we decided to pivot: we managed to get the base layer down today. A professional mason will be coming in soon to finish the job we started!
Despite the unexpected scale, the learnings were massive. Want to get your hands dirty and learn farm-building skills? Come join us over the coming weekends! We'd be happy to host anyone keen to help us.

Getting the place ready for winter and to receive our first batch of guests.

A while back, we planted a few uncommon fruiting plants, and while most of them didn't survive due to the harsh environment or lack of care, this particular plant did. Known as Barbados Cherries, the fruit is mildly sweet when ripe and has three small seeds inside each fruit. We are looking for ways to preserve them or turn them into a jam, do share suggestions if any.

This pic is from 2014 when a rogue elephant entered the farm, went thru our plants and bent this heavy gauge iron gate to get out. Since we have a transformer nearby, the elephant must've assumed the fence was electrified. Later we had to get an earth moving vehicle to straighten this.
Never underestimate the strength or intelligence of wild animals.

Catching the by the ocean or the countryside are both equally mesmerizing.
This was shot from a small hill across the farm.
Our weekends in December are getting booked out fast. Reach us if you are keen to spend a night at the farm with your friends n family.

Our dining area was earlier built using wooden logs which began to give way. This we learnt was due to bad quality wooden logs which were not conditioned well.
So, we finally decided to go with a metal structure and reuse our existing Mangalore tiles. We were able to remove the centre support stone and the space now feels much bigger. The cost was nearly 3.5x the wooden alternative, but we hope this will last longer and become a multifunctional space for our guests.

The first rain of the season has brought us some relief from the sweltering heat and the plants are looking much better now. Sadly, no mangoes this year though.
We are now open to hosting guests at the farm as our bathrooms are ready. Guests will have access to the entire farm, our kitchen, bbq grill and enjoy campfire post sunset.

From a barren piece of land to our home away from home
Shipping containers modified with doors and windowsOur journey began in 2011 when like minded friends came together to experience the humble village life and build a small farm for our weekend getaways from Bangalore. After 6 months of through search we chose this 3.5 acre property for its peaceful surroundings and valley views.
Once the legal documentation was done, we began building essentials (fence, gate, water tank etc) to protect and nurture our saplings. We wanted to convert this piece of barren land into a green paradise but the task ahead of us wasn’t so easy. The ground had become hard and dry due to lack of cultivation and shortage of rains. We realised that this place would require a lot of TLC. A good caretaker was also essential to water and take care of the assets within the property. We learnt the hard way and lost a lot of good plants in this duration. One
Over the years, we’ve manged to find a good family to look after the place, added more plants and built a store cm kitchen with a bathroom. We also got hold of two shipping containers to accommodate our family and friends during their weekend visits.
From all the positive feedback, we recently decided to open this place up for like minded adventure seekers who like to spend some quality time away from the city and not burn a hole in their pocket. Today, we offer tented accommodation and one of our container rooms for people to book and spend time at our simple farm.
85 South East is 85 kms from Bangalore city and takes less than 2 hours to reach with one stop for breakfast or snack. The closest big town is Denkanikottai which is very well connected to Hosur and Bangalore.
