At Rajakkad, you're never quite alone. This ginger one has many names, some in Tamil, some in Malyalam, and one in Sanskrit – Sheela – which means "character" (and she sure does add a lot of it to the palace!).

At Rajakkad, our farm-to-table meals feature a unique blend of Tamil, North Indian, and Mediterranean cuisine. The hillside plantation that surrounds the palace yields all of the coffee and produce that make the dining table a royal affair. Rumour has it, our masala omelettes are to die for!

The peep holes in these wooden panels were traditionally used by the women of the palace to watch the men celebrating festivals in 18th century Kerala. Four hundred years later, these little openings – now surrounded by the forests of the Palani Hills in Tamil Nadu – still act as windows into the life within and without.
