Tiime has flown, and it's already been a month since team has escaped the Delhi heat to come to the mountains to in ladakh.

We've been running some day trips to some of the bouldering and sport climbing venues around Leh, for both beginners and seasoned climbers. As always, get in touch if you'd like to come along. We've also been scouting the rock around disko valley to open up some new lines.

In addition, the crashpad team has been working on a sustainable architecture project, building the hall in the photo. It's made with mostly natural or recycled materials. The walls have been built with earth bags at the bottom, plastered with some locally sourced reddish purple clay. The top.part of the walls is out of reed mats fixed on a wooden frame to let the breeze in but keep the sun out. The roof has been made out of waste bamboo we got from an old construction site, covered with a tarp and a discarded military parachute to make it waterproof.

We're hosting a land art festival Saladakh, and while we've been at work building this hall and refurbishing a bamboo hut next to it, several artists have been creating their artwork around the campsite. The hall will host some workshops over the coming few weeks, details will be posted on the saladakh page.
The land art festival is on until 23rd August, so if you're in Leh, drop by.

As a team, establishing Crashpad required us to embark on a journey of learning, as none of us had prior experience in construction. While Subu brought some knowledge of working with sustainable materials, the rest of us relied heavily on trial and error. Despite the challenges, we persevered, and along the way, we managed to build some impressive structures while gaining invaluable experience.

Throughout this process, we realized that teamwork was crucial to our success. We understood that without love and respect for one another, we wouldn't be able to accomplish anything significant. As we continued building and learning, we were fortunate to have other like-minded individuals join us, sharing their own experiences and expertise.

When Sagar joined us at Crashpad, we had already become quite skilled in working with sustainable materials, preparing us for our next exciting endeavor. Sagar's outgoing personality proved to be a valuable asset as he brought in a variety of interesting sustainable building projects. Our journey took off with the design of an exhibition panel for the Swiss embassy, and from that point on, there was no looking back.

We soon found ourselves collaborating with prestigious organizations like the United Nations, the Netherlands embassy, and the German embassy. The projects we undertook received widespread acclaim, further boosting our skills and expertise. Each experience served as a stepping stone towards our growth and development.

Looking ahead, we are now gearing up for larger projects, where we will be involved in designing and executing sustainable resorts and a nature school. These ventures extend beyond merely constructing structures; they require us to find innovative solutions for waste management and greywater treatment. It is astonishing to realize that our humble beginnings as a rock climbing community have led us to venture into diverse areas such as growing our own food through permaculture, becoming professional builders, and providing a home for individuals with a free mind.

Our journey of working around climbing started with GraviT Climbing] in Leh in 2009 , it was a small gym but saw hosted a strong community. The pandemic affected our flow and we had to close shop.Ever since we started work at the Crashpad we wanted to build a boulder wall here. All off us have climbed a lot on walls but had no experience in building one, anyway we started work on it. took the lead on designing and ex*****on while the rest of helped out. displayed great community spirit and helped out with panels and holds which was the major chunk of the expense. Now we have the wall ready and it's awaiting some sick sessions.
This weekend we will be hosting an informal invite only competition to re-inaugurate GraviT Climbing] along with our regular crash bazaar set up.
